Health Science

Guess what? Hearing aids.! Technology helps it to become that small and even smaller.

M'sia needs more specialists in allied health science

KUALA LUMPUR July 6 - The country needs more specialists in allied health science such as biomedicine, dietetics, nutrition, optometry, pharmacy, dentistry, AUDIOLOGY and imaging in the future, said Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Fu Ah Kiow Tuesday.

He said the government hoped that students with cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.0 would not just opt to do medicines but also other fields in the allied health science, which were no less importance.

"I appeal to students and parents to also consider other important courses when applying for places in public and private institutions of higher learning," he said to points raised by Opposition Leader Lim Kit Siang (DAP-Ipoh Timur) in his adjournment speech in the Dewan Rakyat here.
Fu said the ministry was also planning to introduce several new medical faculties as well as expanding existing ones to meet increasing demand from students to do medicine.
He said additional mechanism could also be introduced to select only those suitable among high scorers to pursue medicine as practised in developed countries like the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

The Dewan will sit again Wednesday.
